Moms of Amazing Kids is a community for families raising children with medical, developmental, and other special needs. We were founded in February 2016, by Sabrina Picariello, a special needs mom, living in MetroWest, MA.
With a young child still undiagnosed, Sabrina sought out support in her local community, but found it difficult to locate resources geared towards moms (particularly moms with children who were undiagnosed). So she decided to start a community on her own.
It’s no secret, moms raising a child with additional needs often suffer from isolation and lack of self care. These are tough things. MAK currently has over 700 local moms who will assure you: you are not alone.
So what's my mission? I want to help moms raising a child with special needs connect with one another for emotional support, resources, inspiration, and balance. But I take it one step further than most online forums or support groups: I help moms make real-life connections & friendships through our online forum and social events. This is infinitely more rewarding.
2) Why Join Our Facebook Group
When you join our group, you’ll get access to:
👉 Private Facebook Group
Our Facebook group is the perfect forum to share endless resources, recommendations, and just talk about the joys and challenges of raising an amazing child with disabilites.
This is where we really shine! We all need a little "me" time and fun once in a while. Every month I organize meetups for moms to get out, tell their stories, have fun, and just be themselves.
There is so much to learn as a parent. That’s why I partner with local organizations to bring parents information to learn and advocate for their kids.
There are a ton of resources available for families, but they are often hard to find. Check out our Special Needs Resource Guide for listings such as Programs & Classes, Pediatric Dentists, Hair Stylists, and so much more. Then hop over to our Special Needs Shopping Guide for a list of mom-recommended products, like sensory swings or meal time tools. Lastly, scroll through our blog for a variety topics, such as staying calm during IEP meetings.
Let's not forget the amazing kids! I also partner with various businesses, such as Jam Time and Boston Ability Center, for sensory-friendly events throughout the year. It's a safe and judgment-free way to have fun with your kids. We also have a play group called Together We Play. Our mission is to educate & share stories of inclusion, and help young children foster friendships.
